What would I do if I had cancer?

If you were to meet me in person, you might ask a very important question: what would I do if I had cancer?  This question pushes me to my deepest convictions.  It is absolutely immoral to "spin propaganda" when asked this question.  The question leads to many more questions: what kind of cancer, insurance coverage, financial resources, age, ability to travel, stage of the disease...the list goes on and on.  THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMODITY is knowledge.  If you've perused this site, you already know that I am skeptical about any miracle cures, many of which you have no doubt seen advertised on the internet.  Most of it is sheer manure, and the vendors are shamelessly profiteering on the misery of the afflicted.  On the other hand, I've had two friends die this year of cancer.  Both elected to absorb the full barrage of chemotherapy (one had a stem cell transplant).  Both died after suffering terribly from the treatment.  If they would have had the right knowledge, one might have lived, and the other could have had a more humane passing.  Having said all of this, let me cut right to the chase.  The most knowledgeable person I know of when it comes to ALL the issues is Ralph Moss, Ph.D.  A Biography of Dr. Moss is at the end of this section.

Dr. Moss has written over 200 specialized reports for over 200 types of cancer.  These reports are extensive and regularly updated.  Ordering a Moss Report on my Cancer is the FIRST thing I would do.  I know more about cancer than most lay persons.  I have a general idea of things that are possibly effective and things that offer no hope at all.  However, if I had cancer, I would need specific information as quickly as possible.  I know I would be getting pressured by my oncologist to do something fast (that "something" may not be the best thing) and I am sure my friends who are involved with alternative clinics would want me to come right away.  What I would need to know is "WHAT IS MY SINGLE BEST SHOT...period."   Simply put, I would order the Moss Reports immediately.  I urge you to visit Dr. Moss's site right now by clicking this link.

Ralph W. Moss, Ph.D. is an internationally known medical writer who has written eleven books and three film documentaries, mostly on the question of cancer research and treatment. He is a graduate of the New York City public school system, New York University (BA, cum laude, 1965) and Stanford University (MA, 1973, PhD, 1974, Classics). The former science writer and assistant director of public affairs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (1974-1977), for 30 years Moss has independently evaluated the claims of various cancer treatments, conventional and nonconventional. He currently directs The Moss Reports, which are detailed written reports on 200+ varieties of cancer diagnoses. A recognized expert on such treatments, he is listed in Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in HealthCare, etc.

Dr. Moss is the author of such groundbreaking books as Antioxidants Against Cancer, Cancer Therapy, Questioning Chemotherapy, and The Cancer Industry, as well as the award-winning PBS documentary The Cancer War. He also wrote the first article on alternative medicine for The Encyclopedia Britannica Yearbook (1994) and the first article on complementary cancer treatments for a medico-legal textbook, Courtroom Medicine: Cancer (Matthew Bender).

Dr. Moss was a founding advisor to the National Institutes of Health's Office of Alternative Medicine (now the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) and to its Cancer Advisory Panel on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAP-CAM). He has been a member of the Advisory Editorial Board of the PDQ System of the National Cancer Institute and is an advisor to the National Brain Tumor Foundation, the Susan J. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the RAND Corporation and the Medline-listed journals, Alternatives Therapies in Health and Medicine and Integrative Cancer Therapies. He has also been an advisor to the American Urological Association, Columbia University and the University of Texas.

A dynamic and witty public speaker, he has been an invited lecturer at many institutions, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (Surgery Grand Rounds, 1999), Howard University Medical School (Grand Rounds, Family Practice, 2003), the Department of Energy, American Cancer Society, and many universities, medical schools, and medical society meetings in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Moss has a particular interest in new European developments in integrative oncology. On October 31, 1998, he was chosen as scientific advisor and honorary member of the German Oncology Society, the first American to be so honored. He is on the editorial board of the journal "Integrative Onkologie" and is co-author of the forthcoming textbook "Complementary Oncology" (Thieme) with Prof. Josef Beuth of the University of Cologne. In 2003 he spoke at Santa Famiglia Hospital in Rome, Italy on chemoprevention of cancer.

In June, 2004 he gave the Coombs Lecture at Foothills Hospital, Calgary, and at the CAMera conference of the University of Calgary. In October, 2004 he spoke at the Seventh Pfältzer Conference on Integrative Cancer Care in Bad Bergzabern, Germany. In 2005, he is scheduled to give the Todd Cancer Institute Grand Rounds Lecture at Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Moss frequently travels in search of valid alternative approaches to cancer. His knowledge, clarity, and compassion have made him "a widely respected figure in the world of alternative cancer therapies" --Irish Times, 2004.

"Ralph W, Moss, Ph.D. has made his life's work independently investigating alternative cancer treatment and the claims made for them. He is known for solid, comprehensive, and meticulously documented reporting on the subject. "
